Bringing the beauty of wood into everyday living
Bowls
These bowls were made from locally sourced wood whenever possible. This includes downed trees on my property and neighboring properties. I also acquire wood from local mills, wood recycling organizations, arborists and through membership in local woodturning clubs.
This process starts by chain sawing logs into large turning blocks. The blocks are then band sawed into rounds which are then rough turned on the lathe. I will often “core” the larger blanks to make multiple nested bowls at this stage of the process. The rough turned bowls are sealed to minimize the splits and cracks that often occur as the wood dries. When sufficiently dry , the rough bowls are returned to the lathe for final turning and then finished.
My interest is to bring forward the inherent beauty that exists in each individual piece of wood.
