About Fawn Hill Woodworks
Fawn Hill Woodworks is the result of my lifelong interest in forests, trees, wood and woodworking. I have spent as much time as possible in natural settings my entire life, and am particularly attracted to forest ecosystems. I have lived in widely different geographies, so am fortunate to have experienced a broad diversity of forest types and tree species. It was during a house building chapter of my life where I developed a deep appreciation of wood’s strength, beauty, durability and workability. These experiences led me to study ecology and botany and forest ecology, with woodworking courses and projects on the side.
My professional career was spent working with international non-profit conservation organizations. I worked on scientific efforts that advanced the identification and protection of endangered ecosystems and species around the world. Forests and trees continued to be a core emphasis of this work. Following this rewarding career, I am now able to advance my woodworking interests while addressing conservation issues as a secondary set of activities.
I enjoy finding the inherent beauty in each different piece of wood, and showcasing this beauty in utilitarian objects. I use downed local trees as much as possible which recycles the wood to practical use and keeps the wood out of landfills. My favorite woodworking tool is the lathe, as I find woodturning to be a very creative process. While I primarily make food-safe bowls and platters, I like to make other practical and decorative wooden items for everyday use around the home.
My goal is for Fawn Hill Woodworks creations to be well used and treasured in your home for years to come.
